FEMALE BULL RIDERS
TO COMPETE AT FROST CHALLENGE
Rodeo fans will get a look at
some of the top female bull riders in the sport at the Lane Frost Challenge,
which is set for May 18-19 in Vernal, Utah.
The Lane Frost Challenge, now
in its seventh year, is an annual tribute to legendary bull rider Lance Frost
and features the top athletes in the sport. This year, a separate womenÕs
division has been added, featuring six competitors, including Mandy Shipsky and
Dee Dee Crawford from Texas, Kelly Gilbert and Jamie Walker from California,
Lorette Guzman Mills from Las Vegas and finally, Melissa Glass.
The six women will compete
for their own purse.
Walker, a former softball
player who now coaches the sport when she isnÕt riding bulls, has frequently
competed against men, often out of necessity. SheÕs looking forward to
competing against an all-female field, something sheÕs done only once before.
ÒThis is excellent,Ó she
says, ÒweÕre competing against athletes that are about the same level and at
the same level of experience.Ó
The womenÕs division of the
Lane Frost Challenge is being sponsored by Cowgirl Attitude. Television
coverage of the Challenge is being
produced by Bullriding TV.
